Bacterial adhesion inhibition on water treatment membrane by a modified HHC-36 antimicrobial peptide

چکیده
Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) are now used instead of conventional antimicrobial substances because they do not induce resistance in microbial cells. The first goal this study was to investigate how various dissolution solvents, such as dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), phosphate buffered saline (PBS) and autoclaved deionized (DI) water, affect the potency an AMP (HHC-36) modified with L -propargylglycine (PraAMP) against Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1, Escherichia coli, Bacillus sp. potential application HHC-36 a biofouling control agent on water treatment membranes then investigated using membrane fouling bacterium model. At concentrations greater than 0.5 mg/mL, demonstrated significant antibacterial efficacy all bacteria species. However, initial DMSO had impact its effects. alone (≥ 12.4% vol/vol) exhibited bacterial growth inhibition. This finding is noteworthy commonly solvent for agents that insoluble water. Overall, by disrupting cell membranes, able inactivate cells membrane. recapitulates feasible use environmentally friendly antibiofouling processes.

Release of Membrane-Bound Vesicles and Inhibition of Tumor Cell Adhesion by the Peptide Neopetrosiamide A
BACKGROUND Neopetrosiamide A (NeoA) is a 28-amino acid tricyclic peptide originally isolated from a marine sponge as a tumor cell invasion inhibitor whose mechanism of action is unknown. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS We show that NeoA reversibly inhibits tumor cell adhesion, disassembles focal adhesions in pre-attached cells, and decreases the level of beta1 integrin subunits on the cell sur...
متن کاملInhibition of bacterial adhesion on medical devices.
Microbial infections resulting from bacterial adhesion to biomaterial surfaces have been observed on almost all medical devices. Biofilm infections pose a number of clinical challenges due to their resistance to immune defence mechanisms and antimicrobials, and, regardless of the sophistication of the implant, all medical devices are susceptible to microbial colonisation and infection. Research...
متن کاملA New Approach to Provide High Water Permeable Polyethersulfone based Nanofiltration Membrane by Air Plasma Treatment
In this study, polyethersulfone based nanofiltration membranes were modified by air plasma generated through dielectric barrier discharge to increase the membrane hydrophilicity aiming to improve the separation and antifouling characteristics. The effect of plasma time on the physico-chemical and separation properties of membrane was investigated. The PES nanofiltration membranes were fabricate...
متن کاملAntimicrobial and biophysical properties of surfactant supplemented with an antimicrobial peptide for treatment of bacterial pneumonia.
Antibiotic-resistant bacterial infections represent an emerging health concern in clinical settings, and a lack of novel developments in the pharmaceutical pipeline is creating a "perfect storm" for multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) have been suggested as future therapeutics for these drug-resistant bacteria, since they have potent broad-spectrum activity, ...
متن کاملProgress of Membrane Engineering for Water Treatment
Together with the supply of energy and the environmental protection, fresh water is one of the three keys elements for the sustainable development of every society. Where the availability of water cannot be carried out by using conventional sources, unavoidable appears the resort of the major water source: the sea. Today, RO is one the most used membrane processes for the production of fresh wa...
